在Matt Moore主投8局只失1分的帶領之下，領先全場的巨人眼看就要延續偶數年神話，沒想到9局上竟然被小熊演出不可思議的大逆轉，3分落後的小熊展現韌性，硬是打回4分，以6：5逆轉擊敗巨人，小熊用驚奇大逆轉淘汰巨人隊，挺進國聯冠軍戰。

巨人前8局在Moore8局只失1分的帶領之下，以5：2領先看似能穩穩的拿下勝利，將戰線延長至第5戰，沒想到在Moore退場後戰局風雲變色，9局上Derek Law、Javier Lopez分別被敲安打和送出保送，無人出局讓小熊攻佔一、二壘。

總教練Bruce Bochy緊急換上守護神Sergio Romo救火，沒想到Romo一上場就被Ben Zobrist敲二壘安打，小熊追成2分落後。無人出局攻佔二、三壘，總教練Bochy再換上Will Smith，Smith也沒能解決打者，Willson Contreras敲出關鍵安打，一棒將比數追平。

小熊的攻勢宛如星星之火，巨人換上Hunter Strickland也沒能壓制，Javier Baez面對低角度速球，硬是打穿內野防線，小熊逆轉超前比數，一棒定江山、取得6：5領先。

9局下小熊換上昨天砸鍋的Aroldis Chapman關門，Chapman一雪前恥、連飆3K，沒給巨人任何機會，終場小熊就以6：5大逆轉擊敗巨人隊，讓巨人整場比賽的領先化成泡影。

Moore投球表現主宰全場，主投8局、力投120球，只被敲2支安打，失掉1分自責分，送出10K，然而好表現卻在5名中繼投手的全面崩盤下，遭到小熊無情大逆轉，沒能將戰線帶至第5戰，巨人的偶數年神話也宣告結束。
